Has anyone purchased an imported 4FC1-T and fitted it into their Gemini?
I have one and there are a couple of things different about it when comparing it to an Aussie engine. I need to identify some wiring and some hose connections.
I'd like anyone who could offer any further information regarding this engine.

The sump on this engine looks like it may fit into a Gemini however it could mean a decrease in clearance between the sump wing part and the crossmember. It would probably be safest to pull a sump of a spare engine and braze an oil return fitting for the turbo rather than finding out the hard way when it ends up rubbing.

The oil cooler that is on all the Gemini diesels is different on this engine. It is at the front of the engine on the drivers side directly beneath the injector pump. On the gemini it is mounted vertically to allow room for it to clear the engine mount and this one is mounted horizontally. It looks like it could clash once installed so I'll see about changing it for a Gemini one. It is integrated with a water line that also feeds the heater so the whole lot needs changing.

Next problem is a sensor diaphram that is part of the injector pump. There is a small tube that has been snapped off at some stage and this looks like it is used to attach a hose to sense manifold pressure. I'll get advice from my diesel bloke before I go disassembling part of the injector pump!! There is a thick vacuum style line attached to the air crossover pipe at the point where it joins the inlet manifold. It looks like it attaches to the diaphram and enrichens the fuel flow when called for under boost conditions.

Next to the above hose on the crossover pipe is another slightly thinner vacuum line with a plastic device (one way flow or non return valve??) mid way along on it and it looks like it attaches to a vacuum solenoid that pulls the throttle open under load conditions. It could be to compensate for a drop in engine speed when the air conditioning comes on.

Something else I'm not so sure about is a whopping big switch/sensor thing screwed into the cross tube connecting the turbo to the inlet manifold. It has two seriously heavy wires attached and a plug that also has big spade terminals. No idea yet what it is but I could be led to think it may be some sort of heater element going by the size of the wires attached.

Lastly on the underside of the injector pump is a switch with two wires and a two terminal plug. Gemini's dont have this switch and I can't see what it does or where it goes.

A few pictures of it:

Could you possibly show us some pics of the whole engine? Not just bits and pieces, some of us would only like to look and not provide any relative help!

On another note, check out isuzone.com - they have heaps of shit on most isuzu engines!

What does the 4fc1 come out of?

In Oz the naturally aspirated 4FC1 is in the Holden Shuttle. It wasn't released here in turbo form.

I'll give the site a looking at. Thanks.
